Hand-painted to appear antique, the cabinet's doors are adorned with various representations of the "baishou" character, "bai" meaning 100 and "shou" meaning long life. There are 100 ways to draw this character, a literary metaphor for longevity. Embellishing the front perimeter is a hand-painted "budaowan," or "never-ending pattern," in gold. A "xi que deng zhi" or "happy bird climbs the branch" image decorates both sides of the cabinet. Sturdy custom made bronze hinges keep the two large doors securely in place, while "tong siqian," or bronzework buckles with flowerpot handles, meet at the center of the piece to firmly secure the doors with a bronze calligraphy brush. The spacious interior is divided by a convenient shelf creating additional storage space, while a "secret" drawer, used in ancient times to store writing brushes or other precious objects, awaits your personal treasures.
